A project led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fahrettin Sarcan has been awarded funding under the prestigious TÜBİTAK 1001 Scientific and Technological Research Projects Support Program. The project, titled "Development of a Tuneable-Focal-Length Fresnel Metalens Based on 2D TMD Materials" has secured a total budget of 2.4 million TL.
The project aims to develop electrically tuneable Fresnel metalenses using two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenide (2D TMD) materials. These novel structures will enable dynamic focal length control, offering the potential to function as zoom lenses in advanced optical imaging systems—a significant advance beyond traditional static lenses.
The research will be conducted in the Nano-Optoelectronic Research Laboratory and the Laboratory of Advanced Materials and Device Applications (LAMDA). The project will also support one PhD candidate and one master's student, providing valuable opportunities for early-career researchers to engage in high-impact scientific work.
The research team, led by Principal Investigator Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fahrettin Sarcan, includes Prof. Dr. Ayşe Erol and Research Assistant Göksenin Kalyon from Department of Physics, along with Dr. Yue Wang from the University of York (UK).
This project is expected to contribute significantly not only to fundamental photonics research but also to practical applications in visible (VIS) and infrared imaging, optoelectronic devices, and integrated photonic systems.
We congratulate Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fahrettin Sarcan and his team on this outstanding achievement.
