Pre-Announcement
The accumulation of unprecedentedly accurate observational data, which has been diversified by astrometric, spectral and photometric data, in the 21st century, which reaches over-voluminous volumes, gives us the opportunity to examine not only the formation and evolution of our Galaxy, but also its structure and opens up new horizons for the testing of chemodynamical evolution scenarios. The future role of researchers from Turkey in these developments is not yet clear.
Research focused on various topics of astronomy was performed for decades in Turkey. These studies were presented in international publications and discussed in platforms such as national congresses and workshops. Studies are currently underway to contribute to Galactic astronomy by examining sky-survey data, stellar clusters, binary stars and similar objects, moreover, observational initiatives and calibration projects to support these studies are carried out simultaneously. These studies show remarkable and qualitative developments.
Although it is one of the subjects that represent our country in international publications in terms of research in astronomy, the research which directly or indirectly contributed to Galactic astronomy from observations of different objects has not been discussed in a workshop in Turkey. Turkish researchers did not have an opportunity to discuss this specific subject which can lead to collaborative works and the researchers have not been able to predict the future of this field in our country.
These ideas brought us to arrange a meeting on 12-13 September 2019 titled GALACTIC ASTRONOMY WORKSHOP. Although the program has not yet been finalized, we are planning to devote the time for invited speeches and only short presentation.
Subject Headings:
Galactic Astronomy in Turkey
Galactic Objects: Star Clusters, Compact Objects, Double Stars, Interstellar Environment
Structure, Formation and Evolution of the Galaxy: Theoretical Studies, Metal Abundance, Calibrations, Kinematics, Dynamics
Language of the workshop is Turkish and English. Details will be announced on this page as needed.
